Karatasi Collective

Not Just PAPER

A Collective Rooted In Storytelling Community And Culture

cHAPTER i: Genesis

For a long time, we dreamed of creating something that brought people together through art, culture, and imagination. A way to share not just paper, but what lives inside it: stories, myths, laughter, memory.

So we began, with hands and with community, and  Karatasi Collective was born. A collective dedicated to story-led design, and storytelling experiences that connect community, culture, and craft. And now, we’re ready to share the very first collection with you.

Our CREATIONs

Karatasi creations are crafted by a collective of women in Uganda, whose hands turn waste into wonder, and whose labour sustains families and communities.

Each creation begins with materials that already exist, fibres from banana plants, scraps, offcuts, discarded sheets. All gathered and transformed into something new.

Each creation is shaped by long chats over tea, textures pressed between pages, and quiet afternoons listening to what the paper wants to become.

Why We Created This

To offer a thoughtful and kinder alternative to what’s on offer.

To help fund our community engagement.

Our work lives at the intersection of environmental care, cultural memory, and collective wellbeing. We host story walks, creative workshops, and community gatherings that invite people to slow down, reconnect with the natural world, and root back into joy.

Every creation you choose supports these gatherings, helping us offer more free sessions for local schools, families, and nature lovers of all ages.
